Arida mandarin oranges

In Arida City, mandarin orange cultivation is thriving, with a history dating back approximately 450 years.
It is said that the origin of this cultivation can be traced back to Ito Magoemon, who was commissioned by the Kishu clan and began cultivation in the Nakaban district of Itoga-cho in present-day Arida City.

Arida mandarin oranges are characterized by their concentrated sweetness and richness, which are the result of the blessings of the sea, mountains, and sun.

Cultivated in favorable conditions such as low precipitation, a warm climate due to the warm sea breeze, good drainage, and ample sunlight on steep mountain slopes, the mandarin oranges bloom with "mandarin blossoms" in May, enveloping Arida City in the fragrance of mandarin blossoms.

From October to December, the "mandarin mountains" are dyed orange.
The unique peeling method of Arida mandarin oranges, known as "Arida peeling," is practiced by the local people.
