Wakayama Pref. boasts the largest production of mandarin oranges in Japan. Among them, Arida City, which has a history and tradition of over 400 years, is nationally famous for its sweet and delicious “Arida mandarin oranges”.

Visit the auction at Oi Fishing Port and experience making Arida Sushi

Fixed net fishing is conducted almost every day except Saturdays at Oi Fishing Port. The fish caught in fixed nets are abundant, and are sorted by species and size before being auctioned. Among them, the largest catch of a scabbard fish in Japan is landed throughout the year. Visitors can observe the process from the sorting to the auction, which is not usually seen, and enjoy the bustling fishing port scenery. After the auction, visitors will experience making "Arida-specific sushi" using green mandarin orange juice at a guest house in Arida city.

Matsubayashi INN

"Matsubayashi INN" is a culinary inn located very close to the sea in Hatsushima-cho , Arida City, Wakayama Prefecture. Near the inn, there is a fishing port, making this area a treasure trove of fresh seafood caught in the local Kii Channel. If you ever crave truly delicious fish, please do not hesitate to visit "Matsubayashi INN." You can also experience making sushi nigiri. Eel restaurant "Kawasui"

Eel restaurant "Kawasui" was established in 1964 and began specializing in grilled eel (unagi) in 1975. Since 2010, it has been awarded the Rakuten Gourmet Award in the eel category every year. The domestically sourced eel prepared in the restaurant has a crispy and fragrant exterior with a fluffy and flavorful interior, allowing guests to enjoy the delicious "unaju" (eel over rice). Additionally, they offer factory tours where visitors can observe the cooking process and taste freshly made unaju.

Jinoshima(uninhabited island)

“Jinoshima" is an uninhabited island near Arida City, and you can reach it in just 7 minutes from Hatsusima fishing port. You can enjoy swimming and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) at the beach with excellent water quality. The inland area is a camping field, and in addition to camping and BBQ, you can also rent it out for groups to hold various events without worrying about anyone else.
